A Good Samaritan named Maddi Moses, saw Jax limping in an open field behind her house. She waited to see if any one was with him. When no one appeared, she ran inside to get some food and water. When Maddi and her husband came back out, Jax had hunkered down under a nearby tree, completely exhausted. Slowly approaching the dog, Maddi was pleased when the injured dog accepted pets from her. That was when she saw he was injured. It appeared Jax had been shot in his right elbow and jaw.
When Maddi's husband went to pick the injured dog up so he could carry him to their truck, Jax got up and limped over to a little hiding spot where there was a pile of dog food covered in bugs and an empty water bowl. Sadly, this pretty much confirmed Jax had been dumped.
Finally able to get the abandoned dog into their truck the couple rushed him to the vet. After examining the leg, the three vets who saw him agreed the front leg couldn't be saved. Surgery is scheduled for July 5 to amputate his leg. While under anesthesia, the vet will also try to retrieve the bullet that is lodged in the upper part of Jax's mouth as well as remove two teeth the bullet shattered. This is a delicate area to operate on, so it may turn out Jax will just have to live with a bullet near his jaw. As long as he can eat with no difficulty it should not present any problems for Jax.
With an estimated $3,000 bill for Jax's surgery, his rescuers just could not afford that, so Shelter Friends Inc., took care of it.
