Meet Cheddar Bay Biscuit

Updated: Aug 16

Cheddar Bay Biscuit came to our attention when Shelter Friends, Inc. received a call from a woman in Lincoln County asking if we could pay to euthanize a kitten who had maggots everywhere. Of course, we said yes, and had the woman rush the kitten to Harvester Animal Clinic. After a thorough examination it was discovered, the kitten only had maggots between his toes, and we decided to try and save his life.

The problem is the woman had found the stray kitten three days before she called us. She had put him in a carrier on her front porch and kept him there during this time. Because of the searing heat she had misted him with water but not to keep him cool. It turns out she thought spaying the kittens would make the maggots go away. But it was the worst thing she could have done because maggots thrive on water. By the time the drenched kitten got to the vet he was in bad shape. The maggots had eaten all the skin away in one spot on his paw that you could see the toe bone.

The kitten, who we have named Cheddar Bay Biscuit, was rushed to Veterinary Specialty Services in Ballwin, Missouri where his prognosis is very guarded. He was put on strong antibiotics and given IV fluids and dextrose trying to pull him through this.
