Sky was found by a Good Samaritan in Alton, Illinois. The woman spotted the kitten, along with her mother and another sibling, lying alongside a busy road. Thankfully, she pulled over to see if they needed help.
The mother and the other kitten ran off right away, but the remaining kitten just lay there. Knowing something was desperately wrong with her, the Good Samaritan scooped her up and took her home and immediately contacted Shelter Friends, Inc.
Of course we offered to help. By chance, the woman had an appointment that afternoon for her own pet that afternoon, but she took the kitten instead due to the urgency of having her seen. Haven gotten much worse just in the couple of hours since she had been found, the staff at the Alton Vet Clinic, gave Sky sub-Q fluids and Albon in order to try to keep her alive long enough for one of our volunteers to pick her up and rush her to Veterinary Specialty Services West.
Upon examining the critically ill kitten, the vet saw right away Sky was covered in fleas and ticks and was super-anemic (PCV of 14%; normal is 24%). The vet also suspected there might be something neurological going on. In spite of her dire condition and a bill of up to $2,200 to treat her, Shelter Friends, Inc. made the decision to try and save Sky's life.
Updates on Sky can be found on the Shelter Friends, Inc. Facebook page.
