Meet Moselle

Updated: Aug 16

Another goose lost her life because of a cruel and impatient person. She was crossing the road with her life mate and 4 babies when someone decided they couldn't wait and ran her down.

Moselle and her family live about an hour away from St. Louis on the property of a woman named Janeane who loves geese. For years, she has been giving Moselle and her family treats like fruits and veggies. One morning she got a call from a friend who told her a goose had been hit by a car and was alive in the road. It turned out to be Moselle.

Janeane reached out to Shelter Friends, Inc., and we offered to pay for Moselle's vet visit. It turned out the mother goose had a broken ankle. Because of the type of break the ankle could not be pinned. Janeane took Moselle home, hoping the leg would heal. She kept her in a crate to minimize her activity, but she's bring the it outside so her four babies and their father could spend time with her. It was a relied that Moselle mate was doing a great job of protecting the goslings, hoping we're sure that their mom would be healed enough soon to resume her duties.

Sadly, Moselle's ankle was not healing and the difficult decision was made to have her put to sleep. Her mate is now fully in charge of his 4 offspring and he's taken on the responsibility like a real champ.
